Brian Michie, who has been working as the optician at the Airdrie branch of Black & Lizars for over 27 years, took over the branch at the end of November 2013. The business is now known as Brian Michie OPTICIANS. The full time staff of three have over 36 years of experience in optics and all remain in their positions. Including Brian this adds up to over 60 years of service to the local area. This is unrivalled in most businesses and both the experience and knowledge gained in that time is invaluable.

Brian Michie gained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Ophthalmic Optics in 1984 from Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University). Brian is registered with the General Optical Council. He is a member of The College of Optometrists and the Association of Optometrists. He is registered to provide NHS eye examinations in Scotland. Brian is a member of LENS (Lanarkshire Eye-health Network Scheme )which operates in Lanarkshire and is for the treatment of minor eye conditions and emergencies.
Marion Carr is the Senior Clinical Assistant at Brian Michie Opticians. She is a qualified Optometric Clinical Assistant having gained her qualification from Anglia Polytechnic University in 2001. Marion advises on the choice of frame and lenses to suit not just a person's prescription power but also their individual vision requirements. She takes the necessary measurements to ensure the optical centres of the lenses are aligned correctly . Marion carries out Visual Field Testing and Retinal Photography as well as teaching people how to handle and take care of their contact lenses .
Machelle McGurk is a Clinical Assistant at Brian Michie OPTICIANS. She gained her SCQF Level 5 Certificate in Optical Care in 2013 from The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, who are one off the oldest livery companies in the city of London. Machelle's duties, like Marion's, also includes advising on the choice of frame and lenses and the accurate measurements of the optical centres. She too carries out visual field testing, photography and contact lens instruction. Both Marion and Machelle do spectacle adjustments and minor repairs.
